But not sure if the wood gas burner chimneys are the way to go vs. Something that burns hot due to airflow design. I guess I'm looking for the most efficient type of twig burner. I haven't tried any of the competitor models (didn't do much research either - this was a gift), so I'm not sure how helpful this is, but that's my two cents on our solo. I would say that it could be a bit more sturdy - I am nervous to try a heavier pot than my thin camping pots on it. You need to be a little more aware of what you use as a firestarter (needs to burn to ash) and what falls into it so you don't gum it up. At the end of cooking, all you have is a pile of ash to dump out once it cools, which is nice. After each storm, I will just collect and pile them up at the side of the house, in case we need them for the solo. With all the storms we get here in FL, we don't have a lack of twigs/small branches. But as a backup, I am pretty happy with it. If I had the choice, I would cook with something that I could step away from for few moments without fearing it would go out. I imagine that is even more true for the smaller models.
We lost track at one point and had to restart the fire. You do need quite a pile of twigs to cook a dinner though, and you have to have a person right there on top of it, watching/feeding it the whole time, since it goes out pretty quickly.
